Out here, a tow costs more than the part.
The nearest dealer service department is a county or two away. By the time you've paid to get there and waited a week to get it back, the repair was the cheap part.
Around Hazlehurst most households have one vehicle and no backup, and there's no bus and no ride waiting. A car that won't start on Monday morning isn't an inconvenience, it's a missed shift. Same story with a work truck or a tractor: when it goes down in the middle of blueberry season or cotton harvest, the cost is measured in hours, not in parts. That's the whole reason for doing it this way — the tools come to the vehicle instead of the other way round.

What people ask first.
What can actually be done in a driveway? +
More than most people expect. Diagnostics, batteries, starters and alternators, brakes, belts and hoses, water pumps and thermostats, A/C work, oil and filters, trailer hubs and lights. What can't be done on-site is the stuff needing a lift, a press or a full teardown — and you'll be told that up front rather than after the tools are out.
Do you work on diesel and farm equipment, or just cars? +
Diesel pickups, work trucks, trailers, tractors and skid steers all count. A lot of what goes wrong on equipment is batteries, filters, belts, hydraulic leaks and no-starts, and all of that is field work by nature. Tell me what the machine is and what it's doing and you'll get a straight answer on whether it's a job for a driveway or a shop.
My A/C quit and it's July. How bad is that? +
In south Georgia it's the number one summer call, and it's usually a compressor, a clutch, a belt, a condenser or a leak. I can find out which one it is, and handle the mechanical side. Handling the refrigerant itself needs federal EPA certification, so if it needs evacuating and recharging that part goes to a certified shop — you'll know before anything gets opened up. Worth looking at rather than driving on it: the same heat that kills A/C also kills batteries, belts and water pumps.
Can you come out to a field or a job site? +
Yes — that's much of the point. When a tractor stops mid-row during blueberry or cotton season, the cost isn't the part, it's the hours. Equipment gets seen where it stopped.
What should I tell you when I call? +
Year, make and model if you know them, what it's doing or what noise it's making, whether it'll crank, and where it's sitting. A short video of the sound is worth a lot. That's usually enough to know what parts to bring so it's one trip instead of two.
